Janet Sue Miller of Galion, Ohio, disappeared after attending a Christmas Eve Church Service, in Brookhaven, GA, on December 24, 2015 and recently was declared deceased by the courts of Morrow County, Ohio on July 14, 2022.
Janet was born June 17, 1937 to LeRoy William and Barbara Crawford Miller, in Galion, Ohio. She had four siblings. She is preceded in death by her parents; LeRoy and Barbara Miller, her sister; Patricia Ann Miller and her brother; Marvin Lee Miller. She is survived by her sister; Linda (Robert) Sidell, her brother; LeRoy (Helen) Miller Jr., Nieces and nephews; Donna (Michael) Yaussy, Mark (Melody) Miller, Robert Sidell, Richard Sidell, Rebecca (Larry) Williford, Rachael Sidell and many great-, and great- great nieces and nephews.
Janet grew up on the Miller family farm in Morrow County. She attended and graduated from Iberia Public School. Janet was active in the Future Homemakers of America, National Honor Society 4-H, and Ebenezer United Methodist Church. After high school, she went on to Cincinnati Bethesda Nursing School and then to Fort Wayne Bible College. It was during this time that she visited Camp Sychar of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and felt God’s call on her life to become a missionary. Upon graduation, she went to Toronto Canada to complete the training she would need for her mission work. Her first assignment with “International Missions” took her to the Boat People of Hong Kong in 1967. She went on to serve in other assignments over her 40 years of ministry and retired in 2007. During her retirement, she sought to continue her ministry here in America by sharing the Gospel of the Good News of Jesus with the Asian community near her.
During her years as missionary, Janet would come home on furlough every 2-4 years. Her first stop was always the family farm to catch up with family and friends. From there she would then travel all over the United States and Canada, sharing the ministry work of her current assignment with those who supported her; a presentation of her work and ministry with picture slides and music, souvenirs and sometimes the food that she was accustomed to eating overseas.
Janet did love to travel. During her ‘vacation’ times, she visited many different countries, made many friends and collected boxes of postcards.
The Miller family invites you to join them in a Celebration of Life Service at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 8625 SR 19, Galion, Ohio with Rev. Don Christensen officiating on Saturday, October 22nd, at 11:00 am. A carry-in potluck meal will follow the service. Please bring a dish to share.
A memory plaque will be placed on the back of her parents grave stone at the Iberia Cemetery, 3752-3866 Iberia Bellville Rd, Galion, Ohio.
